James O'Leary
Site Operations Leader – Warehouse & DistributionWhy did you decide to join the business?
To be a part of a growing business and help shape its future based on my experience. I love developing people through our business and watching colleagues grow.

Knowing that I have a team around me that wants to make a difference.

What is your bed time routine?
Some ‘quiet’ time one the kids have settled. Cooking relaxes me, my wife and I often have a late evening meal. Bed before 10pm most evenings isn’t uncommon, between the kids and work I’m wiped out most evenings. I run most mornings too so this routine helps me stay energised for that.
How do you feel working at bensons for beds has helped you in your personal life?
My site is closed the weekends, which means my down time truly is down time, something I didn’t get in previous large Transport operations. I’m not shy of hard work, as challenging as Monday to Friday can feel sometimes, it’s reassuring knowing that Friday is the cut off. This in turn has helped me be more present for my family and children.
How do you feel working at bensons for beds has helped you professionally?
Working at Bensons has helped me realise that bringing colleagues into our vision truly is the only way to ensure we are building a business for the future. In the bigger companies I’ve worked for you can feel very disconnected to the purpose values and direction of travel. At Bensons I’m super clear of the part me and my colleagues play in creating a winning team for the future.
What one piece of advice would you give someone starting a new career with bensons for beds?
My advice would be that at first the learning curve can seem steep; there’s a lot of working parts that keep the business moving forward. There is however without exception, experts in each area that are more than willing to help & support you though that journey.
In summary, stick with it and be yourself… You’re a part of something special here
