Welcome to Our Recruitment Process
We’ve created a simple step-by-step guide to help you understand our recruitment process, so you know exactly what to expect. We’ve also shared what we’re looking for in a candidate and tips to help you put your best foot forward, including how to shine during your interview. We’re excited to see what you bring to the team - good luck!
A step-by-step guide to our recruitment process

Step 1: Application Review
After receiving your application, our Talent Acquisition team, along with our hiring managers, will review your application. We look not only for experience, qualifications and skill set, but also behaviours that meet our cultural needs and values. However, we do get a high volume of applications across all of our roles, so please be patient with your application. It usually takes around 2 weeks for us to get back in touch with candidates, although we aim to get in touch much sooner than that.

Step 2: Initial Phone Call
If your application is successful, a dedicated member of the talent team will be in touch with you and provide a quick phone call to you, where we will get to know you a little better, explain certain things we feel you should know about the business and the role and ask some brief questions about your experience to ascertain your fit for the business.

Step 3: Interview Invitation
If successful, you will be invited to interview at location or over video link (dependant on availability and location). We can arrange that interview with you over the phone or you can use our self-select interview slots if available.

Interview Process
Once you have completed your interview, we will deliberate on how you did and compare you to other interviews we may have completed. You will then be informed of the outcome via phone. If unsuccessful, we will always aim to call you to deliver feedback. However, if we are unable to reach you, we will contact you via email.

Offer and Onboarding
If successful, you’ll then be given access to our onboarding platform where you’ll receive your offer letter, contract, benefits booklet and employee handbook, and we can begin your onboarding into the business.
Your onboarding can be overwhelming when joining a new business, so we try our best to make life as easy as possible by creating a rigorous training and welcome plan that includes some mandatory training, e-learning, and various meetings to truly embed yourself within the business.

What We Look for in CVs
-
If you have relevant experience in the role you’re applying for, that’s a bonus! But we also want to see your transferable skills. Tailor your CV to show us how your current experience translates to what we’re looking for.
-
Are you as sleep-obsessed as we are? Do you truly value a good night’s sleep? Let us know how working at Bensons for Beds not only suits your professional growth but also how your passion for what we do aligns with your personal life.
-
We love hearing all about you! Give us clear and concise descriptions of your work duties, when you did them, and why you moved on. It helps us get to know you better.
-
Double-check your CV for any errors, and have someone you trust review it as well. There’s nothing worse than a great-looking CV with grammatical mistakes, especially when attention to detail is one of your key skills!
Preparing for your interview
-
We understand interviews can be nerve-wracking, but don’t worry, we’ve got you! Our interviewers are trained to put you at ease and ensure the experience is enjoyable and educational.
-
Learn a bit about our business. We don’t expect you to know every detail, but we do want to see that you’ve taken the time to research. One of the first questions will be, "What do you know about us?" Be prepared to answer confidently.
-
Revisit the job advert before the interview. We include a lot of details in our job listings, so use it as a tool to prepare answers to potential questions.
-
If you're applying for a retail role, take the opportunity to visit one of our stores. Whether you just want to have a look around or chat with someone, our teams are happy to offer tips and advice.
-
We don’t expect you to come suited and booted, but do make the effort. Think about what you’d wear to a nice restaurant. The smarter, the better, as it sets a positive tone.
-
We want to meet the real you. So, as hard as it might be, relax and show us your true self.
-
Think about our core values and the behaviours we look for. Tailor your answers so we can see how you meet what we’re looking for in a candidate.
-
If you have a video interview, ensure you have everything ready. Treat it just like an in-person interview - find a quiet space, check your tech, and make sure you’re all set.
-
Talking negatively about previous employers won’t impress us. We’re interested in hearing about the great experiences you’ve had and what you learned from them.
-
If you have a disability or learning difficulty and require any adjustments during the interview, please let us know in advance. We want to see the best version of you.
