Paul Turner
Region Manager - Region 3 – R3 NorthWhy did you decide to join the business?
A few reasons really… Firstly all the people I had contact with in my time leading up to my appointment gave me a real sense of ‘home’. Their values, goals and motivation aligned with mine and I could see myself playing an important part in the future of the business. Secondly, understanding the journey and rich heritage Bensons has over the decades and I wanted to leave my own positive imprint on its journey. Not many companies have a history dating back over 150 years. Thirdly, the growth plans of the company, along with its ambition to be the best bed retailer in our quest to help more people get a better nights sleep.
What do you love most about working at bensons for beds?
It has to be the people. Every function is laser focused on the part they play in helping more people get a better nights sleep. The friendliness, helpfulness and openness is nothing like I have seen in any other business. The cross functional respect and collaboration is fantastic and will be integral to us continuing to grow our great brand.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Passion, Drive, Energy and Determination to make a difference….
To make a difference in unlocking the potential of my colleagues and those around me along with the experience our customers receive and in the business achieving its financial and operational goals.
What is your bed time routine?
In bed for 9:30am with my alarm set for 4:50am. For the last year now, I have used an eye mask and ear plugs to keep the light and noise out! This comes in handy as I have a Cockrel which likes to sound off around 4:15am! I always set myself a goal of having 7 hours.

What development have you received whilst working at bensons for beds?
Regular feedback, mentoring, and the opportunity to work cross functionally growing my knowledge, understanding of how the various parts of the business works together. I have also had the pleasure of working on several projects which have been rolled out nationally giving a real sense of teamwork and achievement.
How do you feel working at bensons for beds has helped you professionally?
Every day’s a school day. Constant learning new things, and better ways of doing things. Keeping an open mind and listening to others always help you to be better at what you do. If you listen with intent you can learn from anyone. By always being ‘up to something’ and demonstrating ‘conscious practice’ around the things you want to improve ensures you are constantly growing. Always putting yourself into new situations is a great way to learn and expand your comfort zone. If you are uncomfortable…. You are learning!
What one piece of advice would you give someone starting a new career with bensons for beds?
Go for it…
Always ask questions. Seek those who are specialists at what they do and learn from them. I have spent many years learning through ‘trial and error’ which is fine, but the real magic comes from learning from other peoples mistakes.
